Ajith: More for sure

‘Give your best to whatever you do’. This seems to be the mantra of Ajith. When the actor was busy taking part in international car races recently, he had not even spent a second in front of the camera.

Now that he is back from his favourite sport, the ‘Thala’ is getting ready to give a wholesome treat to his fans. For, circles close to him say he is preparing himself for three movies at one go.

“While the first project is ‘Mangaatha’, Ajith’s 50th film to be directed by Venkat Prabhu, the second will be a prequel to ‘Billa’ by none other than Vishnuvardhan. In addition, Ajith, who recently watched ‘Madrasapattinam’, has expressed interest to work with director Vijay,” sources say.

Remember it was Ajith who introduced Vijay to the industry in ‘Kireedam’, they say and add: “Besides, these three projects, the actor’s long pending project with Gautam Vasudev Menon may also take off.”

Eagerly expecting the release of ‘Aadukalam’, his second film with Dhanush, director Vettrimaran of ‘Polladhavan’ fame is getting ready to start his next project, which is set in his favourite territory- North Chennai.

Aptly titled ‘Vada Chennai’, the film will be produced by Dhayanidhi Alagiri of Cloud Nine Movies. “I will start working for the movie once ‘Aadukalam’ (acquired by Sun Pictures) is released,” the director says.

On reports that Silambarasan had been approached for the lead role, Vettrimaran says, “I am holding talks with three heroes. Nothing has been finalised yet. An official announcement will be made after things get shape.”

Happy about ‘Aadukalam’, he says, “it is a contemporary film set in Madurai. Before starting the film, we went to temple town, stayed there and did extensive research. Dhanush cooperated very well.”

Karan’s forthcoming big budget movie ‘Thambi Vettothi Sundaram’ is complete in record 97days. But the bigger news is that the Telugu industry has by now moved in for acquiring the remake rights. Sources say Power Star Pawan Kalyan has already spoken to the produce for the rights. But sensing a big response ahead the producer is planning to dub the film in Telugu and release it himself. ‘Thambi Vettothi Sundaram’ is directed by VC Vadivudaiyaan for producer J. Senthilkumar under the banner Js 24 frames.

The story lines of Karan films of late have been very popular and there are many takers for his films. The remake rights of his recent film ‘Kanagavel Kaaka’ was snapped up almost on the second day after release.

‘Thambi Vettothi Sundaram’ is considered a big movie by many and plans are on to release it in over 230 screens in Tamil Nadu.

Even as two of his films (‘Siddhu Plus Two’ and ‘Aayiram Vilakku’) are getting ready for release, Shanthanu Bhagyaraj is busy with his next venture, titled ‘Kanden’. Telugu girl Rashmi Gautam is playing the heroine of the film.

Rashmi has been zeroed in on for the role thanks to her performance in a popular dance show on a Telugu television channel. A C Mukil, a fresher, is wielding the megaphone for ‘Kanden’.

According to sources close to the film’s unit, a song for ‘Kanden’ was shot at the famous Thanjavur big temple. “Madhavan-Jyothika starrer Dum Dum Dum was the last film to be shot at the Periya Koil,” they said.

“The song sequence shot at the big temple is going to be one of the highlights of Kanden. It is a beautiful love story which was scripted by understanding the pulse of today’s youngsters,” sources add.

Known for acting in films with different storylines (‘Thavamai Thavamirundhu’, ‘Pattiyal’, ‘Pokkisham’, ‘Irumbu Kottai Murattu Singam’), Padmapriya seems to have changed her priority now.

The actress, according to reports, will henceforth concentrate on ‘commercial films’, in a bid to reach the masses in a big way. “At the same time, I will act in performance oriented roles too,” she was quoted saying.

“I have acted in many a film which gave me enough scope to perform. I would now like to concentrate on commercial movies as market for such projects is bigger when compared to other ventures,” she added.

An MBA graduate who was working with a MNC, Padmapriya shifted gears to acting thanks to her passion. “I am happy that I was able to bag different kind of roles so early in my career. The roles I played in Hindi film Striker and Mollywood’s Pazhassi Raja are perfect examples,” she said.

As before we had in all his earlier films even Endhiran will have an 'athiradi' opening song for the Super Star. And it is sung by SP Balasubramaniam.

The song which goes like "Naan Kandathu aararivu, Nee Kondaahu erarivu/Naan katrathu aaru mozhi/nee katrathu nooru mozhi is written by Vairamuthu. We can expect AR Rahman would have weaved a magic around this hero worshipping song.

Meanwhile a reminder of the story of Endhiran. Rajni plays dual roles in Endhiran. One is a scientist and the other is a Robot. Scientist Rajni, Dr. Vaseedgaran creates a Robot with artificial intelligence – like that of sixth sense in humans – which looks just like a human and behaves too like a human to help mankind. But the robot later acquires more human characters. It falls in love with Aishwarya Rai and writes romantic poems. Knowing about the extra ordinary intelligence of the Robot the villains try to get control of the Robot and plan evil activities. Scientist Rajni then fights to save the Robot falling into the hands of the enemies and destroys the evil forces using the Robot itself.

The Endhiran team had already left to Malaysia for the audio release on this Sunday.

The remake of Rajini’s Billa as Billa-2 by director VISHNUVARDHAN was a classy hit of 2007. Ajith proved he is as stylish as any international star. Nirav Shah brought in new style of cinematography which looked path breaking. Nayanthara also revealed she is the best.

Now buzz says the same team is again ready to rock with a sequel to Billa-2. Our sources confirm that Vishnuvardhan is ready with the final script of the sequel and is waiting for the confirmed dates of Ajith. By all means action thriller will start rolling from early 2011 confirmed the reliable sources.

Prolific production house Red Giant Movies has snapped up the theatrical rights of Arya’s Boss Engira Bhaskaran. Thus Udhayanidhi Stalin and his Red Giant Movies will release and market the film all over India.

The move is surprising as only last month Arya had bought over all the rights of ‘Boss Engira Baskaran’ from its producer Vasan Visual Ventures. Arya’s recent film ‘Madrasapattinam’ was also acquired by Red Giant and its power ensured a decent opening for the multi crore budget period film.

Interesting to note here is that Udhanidhi Stalin will be debuting as a hero in Boss Enkira Bhaskaran director Rajesh’s next film.

Dhanush turns 27 today and he is busy shooting for his upcoming Maapillai in Pollachi. The modest actor celebrated it on the location of Maapillai. The film is progressing at a rapid pace and Dhanush is taking extra care to do his scenes as this is a remake of a Rajini’s super hit fil.

After completing the Pollachi schedule Dhanush and his team will return to Chennai on August 12. In Chennai one song sequence and one action sequence will be shot with which the film will almost be complete.

The Dhanush of Thulluvatho Ilamai is completely changed. In his message Dhanush has said, “I wonder if I had made proper use of my life till now. There’s a lot more I could have done. I have to work harder to achieve something.”

On personal front also Dhanush is having a better time every day. Of late he makes sure all his shoots happen around Chennai so that he can go home early to be with his family.

On professional front Dhanush’s diary is full with impressive films. Maapillai is nearing completion. Aadukalam is much expected as it will be a Dhanush film with Vetrimaran. And then there is Uthamaouthiran which is a remake Telugu ‘Ready’.

We wish the Year brings in more cheer for Dhanush. Happy Birthday dear Dhanush.

Prakash Raj is on a shopping spree for remake rights. The classy producer actor recently got the Tamil remake rights of the 2007 Telugu film ‘Happy Days’. Happy Days is a campus love story which was a massive hit among college students. Happy Days will release soon as ‘Inidhu Inidhu’ in Tamil.

Now Prakasha Raj has laid his hands on another super hit Telugu film ‘Prasthanam’ for its Tamil remake rights. ‘Prasthanam’ directed by Deva Katta is athrilling political drama, the greed for power and the lengths anyone can go to retain it. It also touches the philosophy of good versus evil in the journey of life.

Sharwanand’s performance was well praised but the man who deserved the appreciation most was Sai Kumar for his versatile performance! Apparently Prakash Raj might do Sai Kumar’s role in the Tamil version as it has a lot of scope for acting.

Madhavan has officially declared what we have been saying for long. He has finally said he will not be doing 3 idiots in Tamil. He has tweeted “I am unfortunately UNABLE to do "3 Idiots" in Tamil and Telugu. Really sorry.”

So this raises more questions on the proposed casting. Though news were abuzz about Vijay, Madhavan and Simbu are going to be the 3 IDIOTS in Tamil online film enthusiast have been working out so many combinations that is very interesting. 3 Idiots in Hindi actually stood tall mainly on the riveting performances of the lead stars helped by a decent storyline. So in Tamil also it will be tough task to get the right cast.

Meanwhile Sathyaraj is said to have been onfirmed to do the immortal “Virus” professor played by Boman Irani. And for the only important female role played by Kareena Kapoor, sources say Shankar has Ileana in mind for both Tamil and Telugu versions. Some other sources say Trisha is also in the race.

As no official media announcement has come from either director Shankar or Gemini Films more and more probabilities are bound to fill the air.

‘Kanchana’, the movie being directed by choreographer-actor-director Larencce is currently shooting in Chennai.

‘Kanchana’ apparently a sequel to Larencce’s ‘Muni’, is a thriller-horror flick that has Anushka as the heroine. Anuskha off late has been doing meaty roles after her ‘Arundathi’. The first part ‘Muni’ saw Rajkiran in a never before role. All eyes are on the sequel this time.

‘Kanchana’ is a bilingual movie that is simultaneously being shot in Tamil and Telugu. The shoot will continue in Chennai for sometime and a major part of the schedule will cover the talkie part. A lot of visual effects will be used in the movie, it is learnt.

Prabhu Deva, 'Jayam' Ravi and Hansika, who are currently shooting for a film tentatively titled 'Ich', wrapped up their first schedule in Paris, the capital city of France.

The schedule was delayed due to some untimely rain and the whole cast and crew worked overtime to make up for the lost time. Scenes involving Hansika and 'Jayam' Ravi were shot in and around the beautiful city.

Prabhu Deva has been quite vocal about his admiration for Ravi and Hansika and the professionals that they are. He states, 'Ravi is a dedicated actor while Hansika is a lethal combination of beauty and talent!".

Despite a break due to the rain, the whole schedule was finished in record time, according to the unit sources and the entire crew put in 15 hours straight for almost three days

Reacting to reports that his forthcoming film ‘Aravaan’ has an element of black magic in the story, director Vasantha Balan has said the script is not about black magic but something else.

“The movie is set in the 18th century. My last venture ‘Angadi Theru’ has given me freedom to try new things. So I am doing it with ‘Aravaan’. It is a story which is totally new to Tamil cinema,” the ‘Veyil’ director says.

The filmmaker, who says he and his team are taking efforts to ensure that the film would do a magic at the box office, adds: “because, bringing people to theatres and making them watching a movie with all interest is no easy task these days.”

On the lead actors of ‘Aravaan’, he says, “I am impressed with Aadhi’s looks since he is fit for any kind of role. Dhanshika did a commendable performance in ‘Peranmai’ while Mollywood’s Archana Kavi is a talented actress.”

K for Ajmal

The English alphabet ‘K’ is faithfully following Ajmal ever since he started his career in K-town with ‘Anjathey’ a couple of years ago. And he is searching for an answer behind what he calls as “sheer coincidence”.

The name of the character the actor played in ‘Anjathey’ was Kiruba. And now, he is simultaneously acting in three films- ‘Kathirvel’, ‘Ko’ and Karuppanpatti’- all with starting letters ‘K’.

“I am really clueless about this K factor. Nothing is planned and I don’t even know whether K is indeed lucky for me,” says Ajmal, who is happy about the way his career is shaping up in Tamil film industry.

“While I play a double role in ‘Karuppanpatti’, I play a villager who visits Chennai and lands up in trouble in ‘Kathirvel’. In ‘Ko’, I am working with K V Anand, one of the best directors of Kollywood,” he says.

Suriya smiles, shines

Suriya, true to his name, is no doubt the shinning star of Kollywood currently. The actor, who is celebrating his birthday today, is happy for more than one reason, with the first and foremost being the new addition in the family- his son Dev.

“Dev is cute and sweet. And it is Diya who is taking good care of him. Before going to school, she helps Jo in changing nappies and other things. Diya is very fond of her younger brother,” the actor says with all pride.

It is going to be business as usual for Suriya today, as he will be spending his big day on the sets of ‘7am Arivu’ in Coimbatore. But his fan clubs all over Tamil Nadu have organised events like blood and organs donation camps.

The buzz doing rounds in Kollywood is that Venkat Prabhu may opt for a title change for his recently announced Mangatha. Reports say that Mano Akkineni has registered this title and is not willing to part with it. Lakshmi Rai has reportedly told that she is a part of the Ajith-starrer Mangatha, which is to be directed by Venkat Prabhu. It is already reported that Telugu star Nagarjuna and Neetu Chandra will play important roles in this film. However, it is still not certain with whom Lakshmi Rai would be paired.

The actress has returned from a trip to the US recently and is busy with the Malayalam film Christian Brothers, which has Mohan Lal as the hero, and the Lawrence-directed Kanchana.

Asin’s bold statements justifying her visit to war torn Tamil regions in Sri Lanka have not cut ice with pro Tamil groups in Tamil Nadu still.

In a recent meeting jointly held by 'Save Tamil Federation' and 'May 17 Movement', it was again restated that the protests against Asin must continue.

The two pro Tamil groups have issued pamphlets reasoning why Asin must be banned. In that they have accused Asin of becoming an ambassador of Sinhala government accused of genocide. Srikanth is shocked

It’s not so easy for Srikanth to come out of the shock thanks to a freak mishap happened on the sets of ‘Dhrohi’, his forthcoming film directed by Sudha Prasad, a former associate of Mani Ratnam.

“I was supposed to jump with Poorna from the fifth floor of a building for a stunt sequence. When we were canning the scene at a flour mill in Ennore, the safety rope I was wearing worn out suddenly,” he reveals.

Srikanth continues: “I tried to manage by holding an iron chain, but couldn’t. I had no other option than falling down. Thankfully, there was some wheat baggage on the ground on which I landed. Something serious could have happened otherwise.”

Stating that cinematographer Alphonse Roy had captured the entire episode in his camera, Srikanth says it would be screened to journalists soon. Plans are also on to include the clipping at the end of the movie.

Actor Karthi Sivakumar, probably the most eligible bachelor in Tamil filmdom, opened up on his marriage plans at the audio launch of his forthcoming film 'Naan Mahaan Alla' in Chennai today.

"I will marry the girl of my parent's choice and there is no place for romance in my life," the actor said, adding: "I am thrilled to be part of the movie which is set in the city and loaded with action and humour".
