Mani proud about his student
The happy guru in Mani Ratnam marked his presence on Friday, when ‘Vandhan Vendran’, a film directed by his former associate Kannan, was launched at a grand function in Chennai.
“I feel immensely happy and proud to see Kannan’s growth. He has started climbing on the steps of success and has more milestones in life. I will always there to support him,” the ace filmmaker said.
In his address, protagonist of the film Jiiva said, “I would always make sure that I act in one film at a time. But I am doing four films at present (‘Ko’, ‘Singam Puli’, ‘Rowthiram’ and ‘Vandhan Vendran’), as all of them come with powerful scripts.”
Kannan said, “We have taken enough care to ensure that the screenplay is very different. The romance part in ‘Vandhan Vendran’ is freshly treated. Understanding the youthful theme of the film, Thaman S scores bubbly music. As usual, Pattukottai Prabhakar’s dialogues will be trendy and sharp.”
Produced by Srinivasan of Vasan Visual Ventures, the movie has Tapsi as heroine. Camera is by P G Muthiah. Others who had attended the launch function were AVM Saravanan, R B Chowdary, TFPC president Rama Narayanan, Theatre Owners Association chief Abirami Ramanathan, FEFSI president V C Guhanathan, Sun Pictures CEO Hansraj Saxena and G Dhananjayan of Moserbaer amongst others
Happy birthday to Prasanna

Prasanna is celebrating his birthday today. And this year he has a special reason to celebrate the special day in a big way. For, he will be acting in six films to be directed by one director- Rajjan Madhav.
First in the list will be ‘Muran’, in which the actor will share the screen space with Cheran. “After completing Muran, we will work together for six films,” says Prasanna, who is brimming with optimism.
“I know Rajjan Madhav right from Kanda Naal Mudhal days. At that time, he narrated to me a story titled Nee Vanthathum. But the project failed to take off due to unavoidable reasons”, Prasanna recalls.
“But our friendship continued and he narrated me a few more scripts. One among them is Muran. Since I loved all the scripts, we will be working on them one by one,” he says. Ask him about his birthday resolution, Prasanna says, “I will take extra care henceforth while choosing films.”
RGV talks about Suriya again

There is no stopping for Ram Gopal Varma from heaping laurels on Suriya. The director is so impressed with the actor and is in complete awe about his performance in their forthcoming film ‘Raktha Charithra’.
The filmmaker, who had earlier penned a long post on Suriya on his blog, told a Tamil tabloid, “Suriya is a complete actor. His eyes are so powerful. They spit fire all the time. I just can’t stop admiring his eyes.”
Meanwhile, Ram Gopal Varma, who is controversy’s favourite child, has kicked off a fresh debate on Friday while speaking at the launch of his Telugu film ‘Katha-Screenplay-Darsakathvam Appalraju’ held at Annapurna Studios in Hyderabad.
He along with lyricist Kaluva Sai wrote a song with all the top directors by name and took potshots at them. Those who came under attack from RGV include K Raghavendra Rao, Gunasekhar, Gopal, Puri Jagannath, Kodi Ramakrishna and Krishnavamsi.
He didn’t stop taking potshots at Nagarjuna too, saying he never stood in a long queue to get tickets for Nagarjuna’s movies. Did someone talk about guts now?

Though the name of the character Hansika Motwani playing in ‘Ich’, directed by Prabhudeva, is Lalitha, ‘Jayam’ Ravi, the protagonist of the film would call her Lolitha throughout the movie.
“There is a specific reason behind his calling me Lolitha and you would know it once the film gets released,” the actress, who has returned from Paris after completing the shoot of the movie, says.
Happy about bagging promising projects in Tamil, she says, “I am thrilled that my first three films in Kollywood are with three big stars- Ravi, Dhanush and Vijay. All of them are very cooperative and helpful.”
She adds: “While ‘Ich’ is a romantic entertainer, both ‘Mappillai’ and ‘Velayudham’ are mass movies, which would appeal to all sections of the audience. I am waiting with excitement for the release of these films.”

Rajini to start spiritual tour
Now that everything related to ‘Endhiran’ is over except the release, Superstar Rajinikanth is getting ready for his favourite act- a spiritual trip to Himalayas where he would spend time meditating and meeting Yogis.
If sources are to be believed, the top actor, along with his friends, will leave for the holy mountain a week after the release of his magnum opus, directed by Shankar and produced by Sun Pictures.
“Apart from Endhiran’s release, September has also in cards one more important thing. The wedding of the Superstar’s younger daughter Soundarya. And Rajini is preparing himself for both,” sources say.
Soon, Rajini will personally meet VVIPs of tinsel town and politics to invite them for the marriage of Soundarya. He is planning a grand bash this time too, similar to the one he hosted during the wedding of his elder daughter Aishwarya with Dhanush.
Super Sunday for Kollywood
Tomorrow is big day for Tamil cinema. Two great functions, one at Chennai and the other at Thiruvananthapuram, will stay in the history of Kollywood forever.
The Chennai function is to launch a mega housing project for the Tamil film fraternity. To be presided over by Chief Minister M Karuananidhi, the event will be attended by Rajinkanth, Venkatesh, Mammotty and Jithendra.
And the Thiruvananthapuram is the Kerala government's annual State level Onam Celebrations. This year’s cultural festival will see the honouring of Kamal Haasan, who is celebrating his 50th year in the film industry.
The State government had decided to honour this versatile artist who has drawn both critical and popular acclaim for himself as an actor, director, script writer, dancer and producer during the inaugural ceremony of this year's Onam festival. He will he honoured by Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan in the presence of dignataries from various fields.
'Mankatha' marks its presence
'Nan Mahan Alla', which opened big all over Tamil Nadu Friday, gave Ajith fans a reason to scream, for it carried a teaser of the Thala's 50th film 'Mankatha', directed by Venkat Prabhu.
Reason- Both 'Nan Mahan Alla' and 'Mankatha' come from the same house- Dhayanidhi Alagiri's Cloud Nine Movies. Besides, a teaser trailer of the young producer's other venture 'Va Quarter Cutting' is also being shown with the Karthi starrer.
The 'Mankatha' teaser has Ajith loading a gun without showing his face. And when the 'Ultimate Star' shows his face to the audience, he utters the word 'Mankatha', evoking thunderous applause from fans.
Says an ardent Ajith fan, "The teaser was awesome and amazing. We have confidence on Venkat Prabhu that he would show our Thala in a stunning style. We are eagerly expecting the movies release come summer."

‘Thillalangadi’ goes places
The story was told in Telugu at first as ‘Kick’. It was then retold in Tamil as ‘Thillalangadi’. And now, the racy entertainer is all set to speak in Hindi, thanks to ace Bollywood producer Sajid Nadiadwala.
It is said that Sajid, who has made films like ‘Judwa’, ‘Kambhakkt Ishq’ and ‘Mujhse Shaadi Karogi’, will remake the south Indian film with Salman Khan replacing Ravi Teja and ‘Jayam’ Ravi.
“Sajid Nadiadwala watched both the Tamil and Telugu versions recently. He liked the script and the way it was narrated. He immediately decided to take the film to Bollywood,” say sources in the know.
They add: “Sonkashi Sinha, who is acting opposite Salman in his forthcoming ‘Dabangg’, will be his co-star in Thillalangadi remake too. She is expected to recreate the magic of Ileana and Tamannah, the heroines of Telugu and Tamil versions respectively.”
Suriya clarifies
Suriya, who is making his debut in Bollywood with Ram Gopal Varma's 'Raktha Charithra', has said that his focus would always be on south Indian films.
"If I get roles that excite me I will surely do movies in Bollywood. But my preference is always south and I will not stop doing films in Tamil," the actor has said.
Thrilled about working with RGV, he said, "I feel Raktha Charithra would be a perfect launch pad for me in Bollywood. He (RGV) is one of the finest filmmakers and it was my longtime desire to work with him."
Based on the life of slain Andhra Pradesh political leader Paritala Ravindra, the film also has Vivek Oberoi and Priyamani in pivotal roles. "Vivek is a comfortable colleague. I enjoyed working with him," said Suriya. The film is made in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil languages.
'Magizhchi' team all smiles
Known for his bio-pic on Veerappan on the small screen, director Gowthaman is all set to try his luck in cinema now. He has penned the screenplay and directed a film titled 'Magizhchi', besides playing the lead role in it.
The movie is based on a novel written by eminent author Neela Padmanabhan, a Sahithya Academy Award Winner. "It is a movie for everyone. It is one novel that impressed me and I read it over and over again. I actually spent 12 years penning the screenplay for the story," the director says.
Apart from Gowthaman, director Seeman and Prakash Raj have played important roles in this movie. "Magizhchi is a genuine record of real life that portrays affection, kindness, love and passion and very nicely upholds the now-dying values of relationships," Gowthaman says.
"The story line opens in the 13th century and touches on 1985 and 2010, thus spreading over three periods," he adds. With Anjali and Karthika playing heroines, the movie has music by Vidya Sagar.
'Baana Kathadi' captures B&C centers also
'Baana Kathadi' which released on August 6 is going strong in its third week. Much to the delight of the industry this city based film is doing well even in B and C centers.
This type of universal response is normally seen only for the big star movies and it’s a healthy trend starting as a new comer’s film also managed it. ‘Baana Kathadi‘ has made Atharva and Samantha are favourites in small towns also.
‘Baana Kathadi’ is a teen love story set in North Chennai. The love story between a local guy and a hi-fi IT girl has found takers from all over because of the simple way it has been told. When the film released nobody thought of this tremendous response because the minimal publicity and the perceived colour of the film were thought to be only for multiplex visitors.
More over the film got released all of a sudden and did not even have enough time for a decent pre-release publicity. But it proved a good film will do well in all circumstances.
Vamsam ‘Thank You’ Tour
The ‘Vamsam’ team will tour Tamil Nadu to acknowledge the audiences for their overwhelming response to the movie.
The ‘Vamsam’ team will comprise of hero Arulnidhi, heroine Sunaina, Ganja Karuppu and director Pandiraj. They will thank the audiences in prominent theatres at Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode, Tiruchy, Madurai, Dindigul and other places. The tour will start on 20th August, that is Friday and continue on Saturday and Sunday.
‘Vamsam’ has received excellent openings and fresh face Arulnidhi is receiving appreciation from all quarters. The audiences, especially in the rural areas are full of praise for the young hero.
‘Vamsam’ Second Half Trimmed
Receiving a positive feedback for the movie, director Pandiraj has decided to trim the second half. Feedback from audience received suggested that the second half could have been a little shorter than how it is. Hence the director has decided to cut the length and make the second half more enjoyable.
Ajith in Telugu
Entertaining director Venkat Prabhu is in Hyderabad. He is there to talk to Telugu handsome hero Nagarjuna who is also starring in ‘Mankatha’.
Not just talking, other work activities like photo-shoots, date allotment and script discussion will also be carried out. Venkat Prabhu is pumped up about his project as it is his first movie with a big hero and more so as it is Ajith’s 50th movie.
Sources add that the movie will also be made in Telugu. The highlight would be that Ajith and Nagarjuna’s roles will be swapped for the Telugu version. That means what Nagarjuna does in Tamil, will be played by Ajith in Telugu and vice versa. Something that has been tried in the recent ‘Raavanan’ with Vikram swapping Prithviraj’s role in Hindi.
As reported earlier, to arouse the curiosity among the audience, Venkat Prabhu has made a teaser of ‘Mankatha’ that will be shown during the screening of Karthi’s ‘Naan Mahaan Alla’ that releases this Friday.

I get what I deserve: Tamannah

Tamannah has once again denied reports that she has been demanding Rs one crore as remuneration to act in a film. “My salary is decided by market forces and not by me or anyone else,” she says.
“Normally a film’s budget is fixed based on the market value of the cast and crew working in it. So producers decide my salary considering these factors and never had I demanded high remuneration from them,” she says.
“I get what I deserve,” the actress says and adds: “And I always try to add the best possible value to the movie in which I am acting. Because, a lot of investment is being made to make each and every film.”
Tamannah, whose last release is ‘Thillalangadi’, is currently gearing up to act in a film starring Karthi Sivakumar, her ‘Paiyaa’ co-star. “He is a very good colleague and it’s a pleasure to work with him,” she says.
Ponnar Shankar changes hands

The historical film ‘Ponnar Shankar’ produced by Thiyagarajan has changed hands. The film is based on a novel by the chief minister and was growing as mega budget costume drama. The epic film was being produced and directed by Thiagarajan has a list of heavy weights in the cast. Prashanth in dual role, Sneha, Sathyaraj, Jayaram, Kushboo, Prakash Raj, Napoleon, Rajkiran and Vijayakumar and many other significant artistes.
The movie launched in 2007 was progressing at a casual pace owing to the demands of a historical film. Now after three years being under production, sources say Martin Productions has acquired the film from Thiyagarajan.
Martin Productions is fast turning out to be a biggie as its previous launch was also a massive one. In April it launched a mega budget film ‘Ilaignan’ which stars Lyricist Vijay, Meenakshi and Kushboo in main roles.
Dramatic changes in Vijay film

Vijay’s new film with Siddique has gone for a title change for the third time. When the film started had the MGR film title ‘Kaavalkaran’ hoping to cash in on the ever green popularity of MGR films. But when the original producers of the MGR movie Sathya Movies objected, the title was changed to ‘Kaaval Kaadhal’.
But the second title did not find encouraging reactions from even among Vijay fans. So now the title has been again changed to ‘Kaavalan’.
Another major development with the film according to sources is that director Shakthi Chidambaram has purchased the film lock stock and barrel including its negative rights. This sudden development has taken many by surprise. When most of the Tamil community is up in arms against the film because of Asin and the overseas business is in threat, Shakthi Chidambaram’s move is being viewed with mixed reaction.
Dedicate ‘Inception’ to Abdul Kalam: Siva

Hardly could one find ‘Mirchi’ Siva in a serious mood. The ‘Chennai 600028’ and ‘Thamizh Padam’ actor is full of energy all the time and sees things from a different view point, quite like the films he has acted in so far.
“I am unable to sleep right from the day I watched Inception. Because the Hollywood film has inspired me so much and I have been trying to dream because of which I couldn’t sleep,” he says in a lighter vein.
He adds: “I guess the director of the film should be a big fan of former Indian President A P J Abdul Kalam. Because he was the one who urged everyone to dream to achieve big in life.”
“So, Inception should obviously be dedicated to Kalam. I am a great admirer of the former President for he hailed from a humble family in Tamil Nadu and scaled greater heights because of his determination and hard work."
Krish's new avatar

At a time when singers are turning music composers (Devan with 'Bale Pandiya' and Karthik with 'Aravaan'), Krish is striking a contrast by taking the avatar of a lyricist.
The singer, who is the husband of actress Sangeetha, has penned a couple of songs for a film titled 'Kanden', composed by his good friend Vijay Ebenezer.
This is the first film of Vijay Ebenezer, who is a former associate to Harris Jayaraj. If sources are to be believed, the music composer asked Krish to sing the track, for which he used some dummy lyrics. Impressed by it, he has asked Krish to pen the lyrics.
'Kanden' is directed by A C Mugil, who hails from the Prabhudeva stable. Cinematographer Nirav Shah's assistant Prashant T Misale and editor Antony's assistant Antony Reuban are all part of Mugil's team in this film, which stars K Bhagyaraj's son Shanthnoo and Rashmi Gautham in lead roles.
Saranaya Mohan is ‘happy happy’

Saranya Mohan is all smiles. For her homely looks and decent performance have been fetching her promising offers from Kollywood and Tollywood. And the latest is ‘Azhagarsamiyin Kudhirai’.
“I am happy that director Suseendran, who casted me in his maiden venture Vennila Kabbadi Kuzhu, has selected me for Azhagarsamiyin Kudhirai too. My delight is double this time, as the movie is produced by Gautam Vasudev Menon,” she says.
Besides Azhagarsamiyin Kudhirai, the actress is playing Vijay’s sister in ‘Velayudham’. “It is a powerful role with enough scope for performance,” she says, revealing one more reason for her happiness.
Not just that, Saranya is excited that she had visited the Taj Mahal for the first time. “I have read a lot about the monument of love right from the days when I was a school student. But got an opportunity to see it only recently because of my Telugu film Happy Happy Ga as it was shot near Taj Mahal.”
How Sruthi selected music?

Like father like daughter. Proving this is Sruthi Hassan, who too is a multifaceted personality like Kamal Hassan. Among the various fields in which she is skilled, her favourite seems to be music however.
Going down the memory lane on how she landed up in music, the eldest daughter of the Ulaga Nayagan says, “I started learning music when I was in school thanks to a bizarre reason. It was all because of mathematics.”
“Maths was always the toughest subject for me in school and my mom used to worry a lot when I get low marks in the subject. One fine day, our school offered music and architecture as alternatives for maths. I blindly selected music,” she says.
“From then on, I started loving music and it has become a passion for me. Thanks to dad, I composed music for Unnai Pol Oruvan. And one happier thing is, I am ready to restart my rock band again,” says Sruthi, who is sharing the screen space with Suriya for ‘7am Arivu’.

‘Mankatha’ promos with ‘NMA’

After a lot of wanted as well as unwanted debates Ajith’s next film was officially launched on August 2. The film titled ‘Mankatha’ directed by Venkat Prabhu will be a multi starrer in real sense as Nagarjuna is also playing an important role along with Ajith. The film is also Ajith’s 50th film.
On the first day of pooja director Venkat Prabhu said he will be shooting the promo teasers before the regular shoot starts and that will be out soon in theaters. As said Venkat Prabhu has completed the promos and they have excellent sound tracks composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja.
Yuvan has said to his friends that the promos rock and he feels very happy for his brother Venkat Prabhu. The promos will be tagged on to ‘Naan Mahaan Alla’ which will be releasing on August 20. Why NMA? Because ‘Mankatha’ producer Cloud Nine Movies is also the distributor of ‘Naan Mahaan Alla’.
So watch ‘Naan Mahaan Alla’ for two reasons. One to catch up with Karthik and the other to have a first look on the new improved shiny, suave Ajith. Rock on guys!
‘Inidhu Inidhu’ is very original
The director of ‘Inidhu Inidhu’ has done a fabulous job. Though the film is a remake of Telugu ‘Happy Days’, the people who ever has seen the film say the script of the film looks like it is written for a straight Tamil film.
How director Guhan did manage it? He says a good six months were taken to adapt the script to suit Tamil culture and another three months were taken to get he details right. From costumes, hairstyle, to color, mood to sets, designs and Locations were fine tuned with care. “
He further said “Another thing was the determination to use only fresh faces to make the script credible. Extensive research was done for three months to audition the new faces. More than 200 people were auditioned and ten were selected finally. “
Arya’s answer to allegation

It seems Arya prefers silence than coming out with a counter allegation on a complaint against him by the producers of his forthcoming film ‘Chikku Bhukku’ that he was not extending co-operation to dub for the movie.
“I don’t want to make any comments about the complaint. But I will speak at an appropriate time,” the actor says and adds: “I don’t see any difference between my movies and giving same cooperation to all my producers and directors.”
In their complaint with the Tamil Film Producers Council, ‘Chikku Bhukku’ producers Media One Global Entertainment have alleged that Arya did not turn up for the dubbing on several occasions despite repeated requests.
“As a result, we have incurred heavy loss for booking the studios. Also, the actor is not showing interest in the film’s promotion and is keener on releasing his other film, ‘Boss Engira Baskaran’,” they added.
Sri Lankan Tamil Music Composers in Kollywood

Suriya to stun with stunts

Suriya, who is playing a circus artiste in his upcoming ‘7am Arivu’, is planning something different to promote the film, we learn. “He will perform some daring stunts during a promotional event of the movie,” sources say.
“For the past six months and more, he has been learning acrobatics and other circus stunts from an expert. As a result, the actor has learnt some aerial tricks and doing it during the shoot of the film without the help of a double,” maintain sources.
Saying that the training sessions Suriya underwent and the making of the film were captured on a camera, they add that these things will be screened to the audience before the release of the movie, which is directed by A R Murugadoss.
Besides, Suriya will also perform some hair-raising stunts on his own in front of a large number of the audience, probably at the audio launch function. All these things will make the film produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin bigger in all terms.
A lot happening with Vikram

There is a lot happening on the side of Cheeyan Vikram. Really a lot so to say. Vikram was expected to do director Boopathy Pandian film after ‘Kanthaswamy’. But Cheeyan opted to do Mani Ratnam's trilingual ‘Raavanan’ and worked hard for almost 2 years. But when the film got released it did not live up to the hype and expectations. But the performance of Vikram in Hindi and Tamil were much appreciated and Vikram added more celebrities to his fan base.
One of them was the Bollywood director Neeraj Pandey who did the classy film 'A Wednesday' which was later remade in Tamil as ‘Unnaipol Oruvan’ with Kamal Haasan and Mohanlal. Recently Neeraj was in Chennai and had met Vikram. After a small talk the Bollywood director expressed his interest in Vikram and told the star that soon they will be doing a Hindi film together.
After ‘Raavanan’, Vikram got involved in a Selvaraghavan film and even completed a schedule of shooting for seven days. But production hitch ups like the complete script wasn’t ready and the new heroine wasn’t up to the mark etc. shelved the project. He then started a film called '24' to be directed by Vikram Kumar of ‘Yavarum Nalam’ fame. Even this film got into trouble and Vikram walked out of the project after shooting for four days.
If all that weren’t enough now we hear that Vikaram has deferred the Boopathy Pandian film 'Vedi' for which he was to start shooting in Salem on August 17. Sources close to Vikram say ‘Vedi’ is a comedy and Vikram feels that this may not be the right time to do a comedy. The Veera of ‘Raavanan’ has gone down well with the masses and so he wants to do another serious character before taking up a comedy.
In the process Vikram has heard and liked a story narrated by ‘Madrasapattinam’ Vijay and it is all likely Vikram will start this film soon as his next. After completing Vijay's film Vikram will bag the comedy bus to be driven by Boopathy Pandian.
Vikram hasn't done a full fledged comedy yet. So we expect his film with Boopathy Pandian to be a great entertainer.
Kollywood to feel at 'home'
The entire Tamil film industry is gearing up for a grand function at Paiyanur on the outskirts of Chennai on August 22, in which Chief Minister M Karunanidhi will launch the construction work of houses for film industry workers.
On Friday, Tamil Nadu Labour Welfare Minister T M Anbarasan and Information Minister Parithi Ilamvazhuthi inspected the site where the residential houses will be built. They were accompanied by Kanchipuram District Collector Santosh Misra and other senior officials
It may be recalled that the Chief Minister had allotted 110 acres of land near Paiyanur for construction of houses for film workers. The film fraternity organised a grand function to felicitate him for his gesture.
According to sources, the who is who of Kollywood would take part in the function in which the octogenarian and his government would be thanked for the 'kind gesture'.

Yuvan’s experimental tunes
Yuvan Shankar Raja who tuning the songs for Ameer’s film ‘Aadhi Bhagavan’ is so happy with the outcome so far. Yuvan had told his friends that the songs have come out nice and all will like it. He has also done some experimental tunes in the film.
One is a song Yuvan recorded a few days ago. It was a club number sung by Mohit Chauhan. It is a full length Hindi song featuring in a Tamil film after a long time. Yuvan feels Mohit is “an awesome singer and love his attitude in this song.”
Mohit Chauhan is one of the favourites of A R Rahman and regularly works for him. In 2010, Mohit won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer for "Masakali" song by A R Rahman for the Hindi film ‘Delhi 6’.
‘Adhi Bhagavan’ has ‘Jayam’ Ravi and Mamta Mohandas as lead stars. It is produced by DMK politician J. Anbazhagan.
Sneak preview of Rahman's CWG song
Many of us know that the theme song for the Common Wealth Games (CWG) to be held come October is from A R Rahman. And the news now is that sneak preview will be held in New Delhi on 14 August.
The specially designed costumes for the Games workforce will also be unveiled simultaneously. Leading sportspersons, nominated brand ambassadors for the Games, will spearhead the nation's hunt for glory in the 'Go for Gold' campaign on the day.
Olympic bronze medalist Vijender Singh and World no 2 badminton player Saina Nehwal will be among the Commonwealth Games brand ambassadors of the games.
The athletes would travel in two floats across Delhi, which would be flagged off from the Organising Committee Commonwealth Games Delhi 2010 headquarters.
The procession would start in the form of a parade, led by the athletes and volunteers, and provide the city residents an opportunity be part of the grand event, which would conclude with a gala function in a star- hotel in the evening.
Siddharth denies '3 Idiots' offer
The casting drama for Tamil ‘3 Idiots’ looks more dramatic than any recent pot boiler. It seems every one except the director and producer are interested in finalising casting combinations for the film soon.
When the news broke Vijay has been confirmed to play Aamir, the twists and turns in the casting story became more loyal to pulp fictions. Silambarasan who was thought to play Madhavan's role openly antogonised Vijay fans with his childish statement saying he is not doing the film because Ajith fans may not like him working with Vijay.
Madhavan spent more time than required to deny his presence in the film. Now it is ‘Boys’ Siddharth’s time to deny reports.
Today, a morning daily reported that Siddharth will be stepping into the shoes of Madhavan-Silambarasan as he is more than willing to do ‘3 Idiots’ in Tamil because of his mentor Shankar. But later in the day Siddharth vehemently denied the report and categorically said he will not be doing the Tamil version.
What's going on? Is the casting for the film that difficult?
Friday Fiesta 060810
Endhiran’ fever has started and many producers are hiding and creeping with their films to be safe. ‘Endhiran’ will be releasing on September 3 or 10. As expected not many films have been announced for August release. Even some big banners have postponed their releases to September or later.
This Friday we have two direct Tamil films and two dubbed films. As usual in the past weeks of these only one will take the industry forward.
Sathyajothi Films ‘Baana Kaathadi’ is releasing this Friday after raising the expectations for many Fridays before. The film is a youthful love story set in North Chennai. Though sounds a love story it revolves many off beat plots that are first time in Tamil cinema. It’s written and directed by Badri Venkatesh.
‘Baana Kaathadi’ introduces Atharva who is the son of actor Murali. Samantha, the girl who played Simbu’s assistant in ‘VTV’ and the heroine role in the Telugu version of ‘Vinnaithandi Varuvaya’ debuts as the heroine. Both the new comers have generated a lot of expectations even before the release of the film. Prasanna is also playing an important role. Karunaas and Manobala are in charge of the comedy.
Another high light of ‘Baana Kaathadi’ is the music by Yuvan Shankar Raja. He has done a terrific job and the songs are already on top. The already rage "Thaakkuthe Kann Thaakkuthe" song is from this film. Sathyajothi Films which is known for clean family entertainers has a winner in this film too.
The second straight movie is GR Movies ‘Pesuvathu Kiliya’. Launched as a movie about young lovers and propagating AIDS awareness, this long in the cans movie borders sleaze. It stars new faces like Shakthi, Vijith, Dharshini and some known faces like, Shakeela, Muthukaalai, Pandu, Bonda Mani and King Kong.
Written and directed by S. Gowrishankar, this film has only one saving grace, perhaps, in the music composed by AR Rahman’s sister AR Rehana.
The two dubbed films for this Friday are ‘Predators’ and ‘Fire Ball’. Both are very different from each other. One is a US product while the other is a Thai film.
‘Predators’ is an action, adventure, science fiction, fantasy horror move. Got it right? It is about a mercenary and some other people who fall into a jungle in a peculiar way only to discover that they are on an alien planet that acts as an animal sanctuary where they are hunted by a merciless race of aliens known as Predators. They have to fight the battle of survival.
Directed by Nimród Antal, the film stars Adrien Brody, Alice Braga, Topher Grace, Danny Trejo and others. Predators was released in the United States in July this year and got a mixed reception.
‘Fire Ball’ is a martial arts film. It says No Rules, No Mercy, Only the strongest will survive. When you are under the impression that martial art films come from China, Hong Kong or Japan here is one produced in Thailand as ‘Tha Chon’.
Fire Ball is about a young man released from a juvenile jail and joins Fireball, an illegal underground basketball gambling team he believes is responsible for putting his twin brother in a coma while he was in prison. Fire Ball stars Preeti Barameeanat, Khanutra Chuchuaysuwan, Kumpanat Oungsoongnern, Phutharit Prombandal and is directed by Thanakorn Pongsuwan.
Fire Ball was released first in January 2009 and even featured in festivals like Fantasia International Film Festival, Bangkok International Film Festival and Munich Asia Filmfest. It had a DVD premiere in USA and Canada in January 2010.
Meanwhile ‘Paiyaa’ crossed 125 days, ‘Raavanan’ moved into Noon Shows. ‘Thillalangadi’ enters second week and will sit pretty for some more time, at least till the end of this month.
